Neuschwanstein 2013 by Arminius1871 Neuschwanstein 2013 by Arminius1871
This is a picture of the famous Schloss Neuschwanstein (castle new-swan-stone), the fairy tale castle of the bavarian king Ludwig II. It is full with pictures of germanic legends like Lohengrin, Siegfried, Parzifal and many others and like from a dream. The Disney Cinderella castle was inspired by this castle.

I think it is really a must to visit that castle, if you´ve ever the chance to visit Germany :)

I wish I could visit. Sadly, I don't have a passport, and I don't know how... and I'm afraid of planes.
Either way, I would definitely try to see it if I'm over there. I love castles, this is my favourite. I heard it was the most photographed castle in the world-I'd definitely like to take a picture, too.

My dad was afraid of flying too, but he wanted to see more of the world so much, that he just did it with his family.
He said it was worth that and after some time he wasn´t afraid anymore. Because you don´t notice that you´re flying in the plan, you can´t feel that it moves.

Neuschwanstein is really cool, Ludwig made statues and pictures of so many old german legends everywhere. The castle is unfinishes btw, there is missing the main tower and some more side-buildings because he was murdered before he could finish his castles.

I've always heard such things, but then I get afraid of being too scared of getting on the plane that it takes a while for me to get on, and then I end up hanging onto the edge for the whole ride. :(

I've never known that it was unfinished. That's interesting.

I could. But then, a giant squid will attack me. :/ Oh well, at least cruise ships have shuffleboard, so it's okay to get eaten by a kraken as long as you're playing the best sport ever, right? :)

I will start off with Hamburg for 3-4 days with my parents. I will be travelling by train with a monthly pass. For Germany, I am still planning it out but I might go to Leipzig, Dresden and some smaller towns in Bavaria, but this is tentative and due to change. I also plan on going to Northern Italy for a few days to see friends, Austria for a metal festival and Netherlands to see another friend near the German border. One thing I am looking forward to is the local beer I will drink there. I can tell you more through private messages

Wow that sounds awesome! Dresden is so beautiful, good choice, I hope you will have nice weather^^
In Bavaria you should visit München (Munich) and if you have time, Landshut is a nice town with a great medieval core.

That´s a nice idea, I´ve been to Westfalen where you find the Externsteine,
and they are really awesome, and we had such a sunny great day there.
Not far away is the Hermannsdenkmal, the monument of Hermann the German,
who fought in 9 AD against the Romans, to avoid a romanisation of the Germanics.
Near the monument is a nice town called Detmold.

If you drive a bit on, you can reach the Wewelsburg, the mysterious castle where the SS was active,
there is a very long museum about the history of the SS.

I actually plan on going to Wewelsburg. I will be travelling by train since I want to cut down on costs for renting a car and gas. I am trying to find a good train/bus route to Wewelsburg.

If you stop at the Hauptbahnhof (main station), you can go directly east along the street,
and you will come to the Karlsplatz/ Stachus. This square is the begin of the historical town,
usually you will find it easily, because you see the historical buildings east of the station.
Along the historical street there are some beer halls and shops and churches.
If you wanna visit the most famous beer hall, the Hofbräuhaus, you have to go very far east,
but you surely can ask some people to find it. Tho I think it is not the best hall,
even when it is the most famous^^

If you go behind the gothic white town hall, you will reach some more sightseeings.

Which would be the best beer hall or one you prefer the most in Munchen? I want to also find a good restaurant for local dishes (I am not coming to Europe to eat food foreign to the countries I visited)

Visit the Augustiner, a nice beer hall with good dishes. Tho the best restaurants can be found on the countryside of course^^ Dishes I can recommend (depends on what you like):

Wiener Schnitzel, Spätzle, Semmelknödel, Kaiserschmarrn (dessert), Apfelstrudel and Wurstsalat.

If you like very fat and meaty food, you can also get Schweinshaxn (pig) and other stuff^^ But usually you come thru Germany easily with English.

Well, I have more or less Scottish, Polish and German origins (+ French, my nationality)

So actually, I don't consider having a native country. I call myself European. :)

And the Fatherland of my ancestors is probably one of the only things that still interests me in this lousy world ^^
