My great-grandfather

Description

This is the funeral-card of my great-grandfather,
who fought in the Wehrmacht during WW 2.

As far as I know, he was a very friendly and brave man,
he didn´t do crimes and was just a normal front-soldier
fighting for his fatherland.

Unfortunately he died near Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and didn´t come back from war. He died, when he watched the enemy on the top of a bunker. A bomb hit the bunker...

The text of the funeral-card is much more interesting than modern cards of course^^:

Christian memory in supplication,
to the fallen hero

NAME OF THE SOLDIER (sorry I don´t want to tell his name in the internet, to avoid offending words)

Obergefreiter (Lance Corporal) in an Infantry-Regiment,
who died on the 23th of January 1942 in front of Petersburg in the best man-age of 29 years, the hero-death.
__

Im heißen Kampf im Feindesland,
traf Dich die Todeswunde.
Die Lieben Dein im Heimatland,
traf schwer die bitt´re Kunde.
Den Heldentod für´s Vaterland,
bist Liebster Du gestorben.
Hast mutig Dir mit tapf´rer Hand,
den Himmelsthron erworben.
Du warst so gut, starbst viel zu früh,
vergessen werden wir Dich nie!

English translation (as good as my English is...it contains a lot of poetic or old words):

In the painful battle in the enemy-country,
the death-wound hit you.
The beloved ones in the homeland,
hit hard the bitter message.
The hero-death for the fatherland,
you died, our beloved one.
You bravely have with strong hand,
the heavens-throne gained.
You were so great, you died much too early,
but we will never forget you!

NOTICE:

I will not accept any offending words against my great-grandfather!!! He was no criminal and he wanted to save his family and comrades, it doesn´t matter, if his government was bad. He was not!

I don't think you're father or any of the soldiers in the wehrmacht were criminals, they were fighting for their country and the freedom of those living in nations like the Soviet Union.
You're father is a hero who should be remembered for fighting against Stalin's inhuman war machine.
