If you can find a painting, you should have something about Prussian Landwehr of Napoleonic wars. Prussian people did not start that war, and when their people was treated worse by Napoleon than any other nation, they did not care. But Prussians made reforms. Corporal punishments were forbidden in the army. Officers were even forbidden from swearing or unnecessarily shouting to soldiers. Serfdom was abolished. Officers were taught to respect volunteers and treat them well. And officers were drawn from volunteer-Jägers, a light infantry who would have to think in battle for themselves as opposed to fighting in disclipned lines.
And Prussia was swept with wave of patriotism. In fact, over half of Prussian army would be composed of volunteers (that means, there were more volunteers than regulars), many of who had bought their own gear and/or weapons. Since they now saw French as invaders (they did occupy Prussia, even though Prussian king did start the war), entire Prussia mobilized for war. And like many times before, once more Prussia punched far above it`s weight. No other nation mobilized as large percentage of their population.

Certainly in many ways it was Napoleonic wars that shaped Prussia into nation and army that could unify Germany.
