Description

As a request I made this map, where I tried to translate the names of the canadian provinces and capitals. I already created a map of the american states here:

What if the USA had german names by Arminius1871

When I translate, I try to get the sense and not just he literal meaning and I add also common german endings.
It was very often hard to find out the meaning, especially of indian names.

If a state or province is named after a person or british town, I used just a german one.

Here´s the list:

Canada = Dorfen (Indians told the Europeans the way to the next "village")

British-Columbia = Deutsch-Weststrom
Victoria = Adelheid

Manitoba = Engental
Winnipeg = Erdsee

New Foundland and Labrador = Vinland and Markland (named after how Vikings called that lands, because Vikings are also Germanics, so it could be overtaken from them, otherwise Neufundland would be also perfect).
St. Johns = St. Johannes

New Brunswick = Neu Braunschweig
Fredericton = Friedrichsstadt

Northwest Territories = Nordwestland
Yellowknife = Gelbschwert (I used the german word for sword instead of Messer for knife, because it sounds cooler XD)

Nova Scotia = Neu Sachsen
Halifax = Blücher (Halifax is a family name so I took a nice sounding german family name of a famous person, general Blücher, who helped to defeat Napoleon^^).

Nunavut = Unserland
Iqaluit = Fischheim

Ontario = Schönsee
Toronto = Mittenheim

Prince-Edward-Island = Fürst Eduard Insel
Charlottetown = Charlottenstadt

Quebek = Schmalsee (same word for the capital)

Saskatchewan (Oh my god, how do u pronounce that? XD) = Schnellbach
Regina = Königin

Yukon = Großstrom
Whitehorse = Weißmar

Ottawa = Handelstätt
