Alternate History Germany by Arminius1871 Alternate History Germany by Arminius1871
Notice: This is just alternate history (entertainment), the map was not created to offend anyone.

Well here you see an alternate Germany just for fun, the background story is shortly said:

Germany allied in the great war with Russia anc crushed Austria-Hungary, which got support from France, Britain and Italy.
But it lost and so Germany annexed the german parts. Because of many national movements and revolutions they left the
non-german countries to freedom, such as Czechia.
The war with France and Britain in the west costed a lot of blood and so both sides agreed in a war without winners.
But Germany wanted to get controll of the Benelux states which was not acceptable for France. So after some time
they agreed in making a completely new western border along the french-germanic language-border.
Also Switzerland was divided between the 3 bordering ethnics.

German Empire

On the map I added the most important cities for economical or cultural reasons.

How close is Dutch to northwestern German dialects?

P.S. I find it hilarious that for some reason English people decided to call the Nederlandse "Dutch" and the Deutsch "Germans". Did some English guy mix up the Deutsch with the Nederlandse? XD

By any logical reason it makes a million times more sense that English speakers would call the Deutsch "Dutch" and Deutschland "Dutchland".

Very close, the Frisians in Germany bordering the frisians in the Netherlands speak nearly exactly
the same dialect, and there is a dialect continuum among the bordering regions. But the difference is
that the German dialects start to die out, while the dutch transformed their german dialect into a language.

That has historical reasons^^ Historically, Germany was always called Germany/ Germania/ Germanien.
Also in the latin texts we always got that name by our monks.

But, the Germans started to separate themselves from the romanic speaking peoples in the 1. Reich,
where Germans lived together with French and Italians in a state.

So they said Germany, this is the region where they don´t speak romanic, but in the language of the normal folk.
And that is what Deutsch means, folk/ the people coming from old high german thiudisk.

And slowly the old name disappeared, while the Germans started to call themselves Deutsche and the land Deutschland.
And since the Dutch are actually Germans, but left the 1. Reich in 1648, and many moved to Amerika, it seems the english speaking
nations started to call only them dutch, and never stopped calling the Germans, Germans.

Wow that´s really complicated I know XD

Btw. Germany is the country with the most different names in other languages XD…

Awesome map! One could only wish that this was OTL, XD. But is Brünn in the Reich? Also how do you make such great maps like these? Do you use photoshop? And are there any good(clear) tutorials? (sorry for all the questions)

Thanks a lot! I did not include Brünn, because it´s a language island,
but they must be protected or wouldn´t have been released to Bohemia^^

Yes I have the newest Photoshop, actually you have everything u need there.
I saw tutorial on or in Youtube.

But if you have questions or need help, you can always write me. The best would
be a personal message. There are some tools to make such clean maps.
I´m surely not a pro, but at least I know how to make such maps^^

Have a nice eve!

Naja, die Niederlande und Flandern ist doch ein wenig unrealistisch.
